Robotron: 2084
1982
Williams
Robotron uses a cool dual joystick control scheme- one to move your character and one to aim your shots. This allows much faster gameplay than previous titles like Berzerk. You can run away from enemies and still blast in their direction. Eugene Jarvis had his arm in a cast and was unable to use a traditional joystick with fire button control scheme. He rigged up a dual joystick control and realized that this would allow for faster action.
Story
"Inspired by his never ending quest for progress, in 2084 Man perfects the Robotrons: a robot species so advanced that Man is inferior to his own creation. Guided by their infallible logic, the Robotrons conclude: The Human race is inefficient, and therefore must be destroyed." Your mission is to stop the Robotrons and save the last human family. You are the last hope of mankind.
Tips & Strategies
"Hulk" enemies are indestructible, but can be delayed with your shots.
This game was inspired by the book 1984, but pushed farther in the future (since the game was made in 1982)
One of the human characters is named Mikey, inspired by the kid in the 70's commercial for Life cereal.
